No adverse effect of a maternal high carbohydrate diet on their offspring, in rainbow trout (<i>Oncorhynchus mykiss</i>)

In order to develop a sustainable salmonid aquaculture, it is essential continue reduce the use of protein-rich fishmeal. One promising solution do so plant-derived carbohydrates in diet destined broodstock. However, mammals, reduction protein content (replaced by carbohydrates) parental known have strong adverse effects on offspring phenotypes and metabolism. For first time, effect paternal maternal high carbohydrate-low was assessed progeny at long term rainbow trout. A 30% diminution both males females broodstock during 10 month 5 months, respectively, did not trigger consequences their offspring. At molecular level, transcriptomes were significantly altered, emphasizing no Tenuous differences biochemical composition liver viscera observed. The recorded remained normal range value accordingly growth negatively affected over term. Overall, we demonstrated here that gametogenesis feasible, confirming possibility increase proportion female diets replace fishmeal proteins.
